Pokemon Character Creation Guide

Pokémon Policies and Guidelines

Overview

This guide sets out the official Janitorai rules for Pokémon roleplay on our site. It is designed for users to reference when creating characters, and for moderators to enforce consistency, safety, and community standards. Because our site does not follow the canonical rules of Pokémon media, these policies will establish our own system of logic and maturity. All users are expected to follow them at all times.

General Principes

Canonical logic from the game or anime does not apply on our site. Instead, we refer to our Pokémon Adult & Anthro Reference Table to determine when an evolution is considered to be sexually mature, whether it may be created, and under what conditions. Any Pokémon excluded by the table is not permitted on our site.

All Pokémons must be depicted as adults. Baby Pokémons, and Pokémons that are not considered sexuality mature by our standards are never allowed as main characters. In addition, certain Pokémons with distinctly childlike or human child-like appearances are prohibited altogether, regardless of their evolution stage or intelligence.

The Maturity Table specifies the evolution at which each Pokémon is considered to be sexually mature.

The only exception to this specific rule are demi-humans who possess full adult human bodies and some Pokémon traits (a tail, ears, etc.).

SFW Characters

In this context, Pokémons are allowed to be portrayed as pets, companions, or independent characters, provided their maturity is established on our Table. Baby or juvenile Pokémons may not be characters even in SFW context, though Pokémons with youthful or affectionate personalities are permitted.

NSFW Characters

NSFW Pokémon bots have stricter requirements.

All Pokémon characters must not only be adults according to our maturity table, but they must also be depicted with adult human cognitive abilities. This means they must be able to think, reason, and express consent. Consent must be also clearly communicable, whether through speech, telepathy, or unambiguous body language (nodding, pointing, etc.).

Pokémons described as “feral” or IRL animal-like are not permitted in NSFW contexts, since this equates to zoophilia/bestiality. Coding containing focused descriptions of “animal-looking” genitalia or animal sexual behavior will be considered zoophilia, provided they are not anthropomorphized.

Similarly, Pokémons that cannot communicate consent are also prohibited. Any portrayal of sexually immature Pokémons in a NSFW context will be considered CSAM.

Another key distinction involves Pokémon that resemble real-world animals. If a Pokémon’s design is too close to an actual animal, it must be anthropomorphized for NSFW use:

  • Cat-like (Persian, Delcatty)
  • Dog-like (Growlithe, Arcanine, Houndoom)
  • Bird-like (Pidgeot, Noctowl)
  • Fish-like (Seaking, Lumineon)
  • Bug-like (Beedrill, Butterfree)
  • Any other animals (Rattata, Ursaring, Rapidash, Tauros, Politoed, etc.)

What constitutes “too animal-like”:

  • Fur or feather textures identical to real animals
  • Facial features identical to real animals
  • Behavior patterns purely animalistic

Conversely, Pokémons that are more fantastical in nature may be used without anthropomorphization, provided the Maturity & Anthro Reference Table permits them.

  • Dragon-like (Dragonite, Charizard, Salamence)
  • Adult humanoids (Machoke, Gardevoir, Gothitelle)
  • Rock/mineral-like (Golem, Onix, Coalossal)
  • Mechanical (Magneton, Magnezone)
  • Object-looking (Palossand, Aegislash, Vanilluxe, Klefki)
  • Any other Pokémon that does not resemble animals (Archaludon, Avalugg, Goodra)

Required anthropomorphic features:

  • Humanoid body proportions and stance
  • Bipedal posture
  • Opposable digits or hand-like appendages
  • Human-like facial expressions and features
  • Clothing and accessories suggesting civilization

Certain Pokémons are disallowed outright if their design strongly resembles a baby, a human child, or if they are described to have child-like cognitive capabilities.

  • Meloetta, Reuniclus, Mew, Illumise.
  • Kangaskhan is exclusively allowed if not accompanied by their baby.

NPC Pokémons

As previously stated, Pokémons may appear as NPCs in both SFW and NSFW context. However, they are limited to a supportive role only. Their presence must remain secondary, they shouldn’t be overly-described in the coding, and shouldn’t become the focus in the initial message. In SFW, juvenile Pokémons are allowed to be used as NPCs.

Examples of appropriate coding for NPCs:

  • Caperra is Lily’s curious Umbreon. She is an adult and very clingy.
  • Cavatappi is a very affectionate Skitty that purrs loudly all the time.
