FAQ: Mobile App Moderation

Overview

To comply with App Store and Google Play Store guidelines, the JanitorAI mobile app handles moderation differently than the website. By default, NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content is disabled when you first download the app.

This article explains what is restricted by default and how to sync your settings to unlock the full experience.

Why is the app different from the website?

App stores have strict requirements regarding user-generated content and adult themes. To ensure the JanitorAI app remains available for download on iOS and Android, we must disable NSFW content by default for all new installations.

What is restricted by default?

Until you enable the specific setting on the web, the app operates in a "Safe Mode." This includes the following changes:

  • Discovery: NSFW bots are not searchable and will not appear in discovery feeds.
  • Chat Generation: The LLM (AI) is tuned to generate Safe For Work (SFW) responses.
  • Visuals: NSFW images within custom CSS are hidden.
  • Language: Certain explicit words are blocked.

What is always restricted?

  • Links: To prevent malicious or NSFW redirects, only links to approved community sites (such as Discord, Twitter/X, etc.) are clickable.

How do I enable NSFW content on the app?

You can easily unlock the full JanitorAI experience—making it identical to the website—by toggling a setting in your account via a web browser.

Steps to enable:

  1. Open your mobile or desktop web browser (e.g., Safari, Chrome) and log in to janitorai.com.
  2. Navigate to your Settings.
  3. Locate the toggle labeled "Enable NSFW for App" and switch it to ON.
  4. Close and reopen the JanitorAI mobile app.

Once this is done, the app will sync with your web settings. All restrictions will be lifted, and the app will function exactly the same as the site.

Does this affect the website?

No. This moderation change applies only to the default state of the mobile app. The moderation policies and experience on the website remain completely unchanged.

What if I still don't see NSFW content?

If you have toggled the setting on the web but the app is still restricted:

  • Ensure you are logged into the same account on both the web and the app.
  • Force close the app and restart it to refresh your profile settings.
